TRANSLATION EXPERIENCE FOR INTERNATIONAL BODIES AND EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS

EU GENERAL AFFAIRS AND POLICIES, LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE DOCUMENTS, REGULATORY TEXTS, TRANSLATIONS IN THE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL FIELD

Alltrad’s experience with EU texts dates back to 1992 to its first translations for the European Commission, extended in 1994 to the European Parliament, to the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union and to the Court of Justice.

At the moment, translations for European Institutions are assigned to contractors on the basis of tenders which, also according to the sector of specialisation, establish strict requirements with regard to the qualifications and experience of the translators to whom these are assigned and to quality assurance controls.

In addition to five major contracts in the industrial property sector Alltrad has been awarded for the translation of EU Trademarks since 1997, successful bids also led to a suite of contracts in various other sectors.

In December 2017, Alltrad stipulated new contracts, still in course, with the Court of Justice for the translation of specialised legal texts from English, French, Spanish and German into Italian: judgments, claims, appeals, opinions of Advocates general, references for preliminary ruling made by national Courts.

Within a framework contract with the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union Alltrad translates general texts concerning EU policies from English, French and German into Italian. Another framework contract acquired in November 2015 applies to translation services addressing various scientific areas: the chemical sector, the environment as well as the medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

Before this contract, since 2006 Alltrad has gained a remarkable experience thanks to several framework contracts concerning specific scientific sectors, translating mainly texts of ECHA, i.e. the European Chemicals Agency and of EMA, the European Medicines Agency.

Alltrad currently is assigned orders by the European Commission upon invitation to negotiated tenders for the translation of highly specialised texts, mainly from English and to a minor extent from French and from other EU official languages into Italian. Our work is based on a long-term experience gained within several framework contracts stipulated in 1997, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012 concerning the translation from English, French and German of texts concerning EU policies, in particular legal and legislative texts (decisions, regulations, State aid dossiers), economic and financial documents, in the banking and insurance field, texts for the general public and high level technical texts in various fields (reports, studies, guidelines, web pages).
