Simultaneous

Simultaneous interpreting is carried out in a sound-proof booth using a specific system. There must be two interpreters per booth for each language combination for a day of maximum seven hours of interpreting. There may be only one interpreter per booth when the service does not exceed one hour.

This is the ideal solution for conferences, congresses, presentations especially when translation into several languages is involved. In particular circumstances, a mobile system is available for guided visits (bidule mobile appliances).

Consecutive

Consecutive interpreting does not require the use of conference systems. The interpreter takes notes using a specialised technique and translates during specific pauses or once the speaker has finished speaking. One interpreter is envisaged for half-day presentations while two interpreters are required for a full day.

With consecutive interpreting, the duration of events increases considerably and may even double. This method is generally used when it is necessary to translate a single foreign language for the public, for meetings, interviews or even in court.

Whispered interpreting

This is a variation on simultaneous interpreting without the aid of technological systems. The translation is whispered to one or more but always a limited number of listeners. One interpreter is envisaged for services of not more than two hours while two are necessary in other cases.
